The Haunted House at Hundred Acres Manor, now in its 5th year of operation in South Park, Pennsylvania, describes itself this way: "Hundred Acres Manor is the most intense, in your face, run for your life, scream bloody murder haunted attraction featuring the most brutal displays of absolute carnage and chaos. Prepare yourself for a full sensory inhuman assault on your psyche leaving you in a state of panic and dismay. A sadistic world of unimaginable and inconceivable horrors awaits that will leave you paralyzed with shear dread and terror. Hundred Acres Manor is a true shock show that delivers an extreme overdose of terror that will leaving you crying in a corner with your insides bleeding and your underwear soiled. "

Can you handle it?!?! Of course you can. Thousands of visitors each year manage to do so, though not without raw throats, shaking limbs, and someone to cling to or hide behind.

maze reconstructed and most of the painting completed

The Haunted house has over 60 rooms and uncountable corridors, and when you exit the house you'll find yourself in an unbelievably challenging maze. (There are watchful staffers ready to rescue those who become hopelessly entangled.) Employees of Wyatt Industries rebuilt the maze from the ground up as a United Way Day of Caring project, the corporation donating all of the construction supplies and employees donating their time before and after work over several weeks and the August 14th build day.

actors being made up

Speaking of folks donating their time, we celebrate the fact that Hundred Acres Manor is operated entirely by volunteers. As you can imagine, it takes lots of volunteers — serving as actors, makeup artists, ticket sellers and ticket takers, parking lot attendants, and more.

Volunteers are now being recruited. See Volunteer for details and see also a WPXI slide show of the Pittsburgh Steelers at Hundred Acres Manor in October 2009. We're anticipating that a number of Steelers will again be principal "haints" on a Monday night to be announced. (Were the Haunted House in North Park, you'd likely encounter "haunts." In South Park they're "haints.")

Because volunteers do all the work that supports the Haunted House, the entire proceeds can be donated to the Homeless Children's Education Fund and Animal Friends. The 2009 event raised $112,000, with $56,000 given to each organization.

The Haunted House at Hundred Acres Manor is high on the list of best haunted houses in the nation. Check out this review of the Haunted House in a featured article on HauntedWorld.com

October 29-31, Pennsylvania Art Educators Association Conference
As part of the conference, Artist Justin Mazzei and conference participants will be creating for two HCEF partner housing agencies a unique, interactive sculpture to be installed on a wall in their HCEF-built Learning Centers. The art work will feature artistic glass bottles into which children and moms will be encouraged to place notes expressing their wishes and hopes for the future. The "Wishing Wall" is expected to be therapeutic, creative, and empowering.

Warm thanks for your support of events benefiting HCEF
