HCEF has been approved for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development Educational Improvements Tax Credit (EITC) program. The EITC program encourages businesses to support educational improvement programs like those HCEF offers. See our 2012 EITC supporters.
EITC funding has supported HCEF's Customized Accelerated Program for Education, providing professionally-led, accelerated educational workshops and activities designed to recognize and enrich the natural gifts and talents of children and youth: encouraging creative thinking, advancing student achievement, helping shape tomorrow's work force. See HopeThroughLearning videos of such activities on YOUTUBE.
In the summer of 2011 EITC monies funded the following opportunities for children living in our partner homeless agencies:
- Creative Play: an introduction to the theatre arts with acting games, group activities, and opportunities to be actors, directors, and designers in turn
- Foreign languages and the arts: Spanish through dance; French through African drumming and dance; French through visual arts, crafts, and music; Spanish with moms and toddlers; French with moms and toddlers
- LabRatz Science Club
- Arts and crafts with the Society of Contemporary Craft and the Warhol Museum
And the children and youths are not the only ones who look forward to these opportunities. As we hear from the founder and director of LabRatz: "Our instructors will literally fight with each other over going to the shelters instead of going to schools. Everyone loves the kids at the shelters. They seem to be more inquisitive and more enthusiastic in general."
See, as examples, photo stories of past and recent accelerated learning programs LabRatz Science Camp, African Drumming and Culture, and silk-screening with the Warhol.
Thank you from HCEF for helping to provide
"Hope Through Learning"
for children caught-up in homelessness.
And thank you from the families who benefit from your contributions.
