While resident in a local transitional housing center Heather had access to a previously unimagined quantity of professionally selected art materials supplied by HCEF. She took advantage of this bonanza of sketch pads, colored and black lead pencils, and quiet work space in the HCEF-built Learning Center to focus on her portraits. HCEF "discovered" her when one of her drawings was submitted and quickly selected as the illustration for our 2006 Annual Fund thank you card.
Heather showed such talent that HCEF and agency staff facilitated her acceptance for art classes at the Carnegie Museum of Art, which in turn provided the scholarship that made her enrollment possible.
HCEF is proud to have hosted Heather's first art show at the March 2008 Champions for Children Benefit.
