Leadership Transition with HCEF Logo

HCEF’s Executive Director, Carlos T. Carter, has resigned his position with Homeless Children’s Education Fund (HCEF) effective November 3rd, 2021.  He has dedicated the past 5 years of his professional career to leading HCEF to expand and innovate its programming to impact the lives of the children and families we serve in tangible and intangible ways.  Many of you have had the pleasure to work with Carlos and know well his engaging personality and all that he brought to our organization.

Carlos is leaving us with a well-respected and financially strong organization ready to fulfill our strategic vision and our mission to advance the education of children and youth experiencing homelessness in Southwestern PA, guiding them to be productive, empowered citizens.

Leaving HCEF was no easy decision as I am deeply connected to the board, team and mission. However, I could not ignore the call to action to make Pittsburgh livable for all. I will continue to be a donor and supporter.”

We have a talented and mission-focused board that has initiated the search process for the next leader of HCEF. Kaitlyn Nykwest (knykwest@homelessfund.org), our Education Director, will serve as the Interim Executive Director during our search.  Kaitlyn has been on the HCEF team for 10 years and is a strong leader and advocate for our mission.

We are happy for Carlos and wish him every success in his new role with the Urban League.  This is an obvious step forward in his career path and further demonstrates that others recognize and appreciate the great work being done at HCEF!
